About Bruno Liljefors
Bruno Liljefors is one of the world’s foremost animal painters. The Thiel Gallery’s collection includes more than fifty of his works.
Banker Ernest Thiel and Bruno Liljefors shared a passion for hunting and nature. Thiel had grown weary of his life in banking and increasingly sought out the world of art and philosophy. He became Liljefors’s greatest patron. Among the works in the collection is Morning Mood (1895), the first piece Thiel acquired as an art collector.
Author and biologist Fredrik Sjöberg has long followed in Bruno Liljefors’s footsteps. His new biography is full of gripping stories about a hunter, sports enthusiast, and ever-relevant painter. The book is richly illustrated with both familiar and rarely seen images.
